Arthive—the art vending machine

Arthive-the art vending machine

Suzie Smith & Angela Forget have turned a classic vending machine into an art gallery. For only $4, patrons can select the artwork of their choice packaged in a neat little box. Currently Arthive is located at the Black Sheep Diner (540 Ellice Ave, just west of the U of W). It was previously at Artspace. Its debut appearance was at the 2006 Winnipeg Folk Festival.

My contribution is Parade, a multiple created specifically for this installation. Each segment of Parade is individual, sufficient unto itself and at the same time part of the larger whole. People of today mingle with figures from the past united in procession. The marshal has put color woodcuts in the lead. Begun in June 2006 for Arthive at the Winnipeg Folk festival, the parade will continue until the crowd tires of the spectacle.
