The Civil Registration system for recording births, marriages, and deaths in England and Wales has been in place since 1837 and is one of the most significant single resources for genealogical research back to Victorian times. The FreeBMD project contains index information for the period 1837-1983. Please note: We have not yet transcribed the whole index. "
