262 PLAQUE FROM HORSE TRAPPINGS, BREZOVO, PLOVDIV DISTRICT

Late fifth or early fourth century B.C. Silver, height 4.5 cm. to 4.8 cm. Archaeological Museum, Sofia. Inv. no 1712

A griffin's head with an open beak revealing the teeth. The mane is indicated by a semicircular border covered with radially disposed incised lines above the eye and behind the cheek. The border is broken by the ears. The plaque has a flat ring at the back for attachment to a strap.
